The swarm. |

See some of the bees flying around? They were everywhere, and not too bothered by our intrusion. |
Saturday was a gorgeous day here in Vermont, and a perfect one for doing some maintenance work on the bee hives. We'd been concerned about one hive all spring, because while there was a tiny bit of activity in the hive, it seemed that many of the bees were gone. We assumed the worst--that they hadn't made it through the winter. As Grey was working though, he heard some noise in a nearby tree and found a swarm! We'd been out to the hives many times before, but I guess the beautiful day had all the bees out working, and their buzzing gave away their new location. As relatively new beekeepers, we aren't quite sure the best way to get that swarm back into a hive, or why they swarmed in the first place, so we are reaching out to our Beekeeper's Association for some assistance. We are delighted though that they made it through the winter! We'll keep you posted on our efforts to get them back in a hive.
